Global Standing - Marlborough Sounds, New Zealand
The heart of Yiquan Qigong training is the Universal Post (aka Hun Yun Zhuang)! Anyone who studies the art of Yiquan Qigong will spend much of their foundation practice standing and cultivating in that one posture. Master Wang Xiang Zhai's philosophy was that of all true masters! He was able to take the complicated and find the essence.

Notes from Master Wang Xiang Zhai:
"The standing exercise represents a very special accumulation of
knowledge in China. But in the past there were very few people who paid
attention to it because most people thought it was too simple. They
wondered how, by sitting or standing in a single posture without moving,
can you improve health? When people wonder this, it is because they do
not really understand the essence of standing. In reality, in
practicing the exercise of standing without moving, we can not only
increase physical strength, but also awaken healing processes within the
body, allowing the body to cure itself of all kinds of chronic diseases
it might have accumulated during a lifetime. Therefore, in
preventative medicine, standing exercises have great value. In fact, it
is on of the most appropriate ways of exercising."

Monday MIT Qigong: November 28, 2011
Date: 11/28/11
From Jim info@apricotforesthall.com
Subject: Building 1/Room 242
Some notes on Qigong:
Standing Meditation can be considered an advanced form of Taoist meditation, in which Xing Ming Shuang Xiu "spirit and nature are equally cultivated"! In Standing Meditation, externally, there is no movement, yet internally, the Qi and Breath are moving. It is thus both passive and active, both yin and yang. The practitioner does not try to do anything with the Qi, he or she simply becomes aware of the quality of Qi, how it is moving, where it is blocked or free, whether it feels clear or turbid, smooth or coarse.
Thus, Standing Meditation is "a million dollar secret". It is a secret because it is so obvious, so ordinary that we do not give it the attention it deserves. It is hidden as the air is hidden, or as the water is hidden to a fish. In the everyday Qigong of standing, we discover the deepest mystery and beauty. We turn standing into a discipline in order to go more deeply into the quality of what is happening and to bring back to wholeness the confused, scattered, and lost parts of the body, mind and soul.

Subject: Monday Night Session
Hello,
Over the past few weeks @ MIT we have reviewed the Year One & Two Qigong training. Last night was all Year Two Qigong training which is designed to build on the foundation and also get the body ripe for the Year Three sets! The training program is so simple that it is suitable for people of all ages and the results are certainly second to none. Thanks again for all the questions and emails. I am always happy to hear your thoughts. Below are some notes on Zhan Zhuang Qigong from our arts founder, Master Wang Xiang Zhai:
Within the body the muscles are at ease,
suspended from the sky.
suspended from the sky.
Outside, each hair is active, moving with the air.
The inner eye is quiet, seeing the three thousand.
The ear listens intently to its own body,
like the eavesdropping on lovers.
like the eavesdropping on lovers.
Play like a dragon in the ocean and sky.
Or as a cloud swirling around the moon.
The images of this art are without beginning or end.
You balance, intoxicated, on a leaping dragon fish.

MIT Qigong Program: Monday, June 13
While Coach Jim recommends just 20 minutes of zhan zhuang training every day, our club meets every Monday for a full hour of soft qigong practice. The power of group mentality enables even first time participants to endure an advanced routine of postures. Last Monday, we had five new students join us in Kresge Auditorium for a full hour of year one and year two exercises.

Subject: Simple & Effective
Many people are often looking for a simple approach to cultivating their health and well-being but today it is extremely difficult to find this kind of training. It is all too common for someone to learn a complicated set from the Chinese internal schools with the idea if you repeat it long enough the inner mysteries will surface but sadly this tends to not happen. Others head towards the Yogic schools and learn dozens of different stretches and postures all with the goal of cultivating health and well-being. Both roads are without a doubt complicated and require a great deal of effort unlike Zhan Zhuang Qigong.
Zhan Zhuang Qigong is the root method of evoking healing for the mind, body and breath! The platform utilizes the principle of softness to loosen up the physical body, relax the breathing and quiet the mind. All three aspects gradually and smoothly return the body to the Natural State and can be practiced by people of all ages. With minimal effort you will revitalize your entire being and experience the wonders of a truly holistic and core internal art. Twenty Minutes per day is all you need! It would take longer to drive to the local fitness center than it would to get in a session of Zhan Zhuang Qigong.

5min Gathering Qi

Move Towards Simplicity: Hun Yun Zhuang
The heart of Yiquan Qigong training is the Universal Post (aka Hun Yun Zhuang)! Anyone who studies the art of Yiquan Qigong will spend much of their foundation practice standing and cultivating in that one posture. Master Wang Xiang Zhai's philosophy was that of all true masters! He was able to take the complicated and find the essence. Read below what Master Wang felt about the Hun Yun Zhuang:
The methods of Zhan Zhuang are rather numerous, for example, xianglong zhuang (subdue the dragon post), fuhu zhuang (taming tiger post), ziwu zhuang (midnight-noon post), sancai zhuang (heaven, earth & man post) etc.. Now, GET RID OF THE NUMEROUS AND MOVE TOWARDS SIMPLICITY, take the strong points of each Zhuang and combine them into one, namely Hun Yun Zhuang! -WXZ
To achieve wonders in the health arts, one must have the changing of one's strength with Zhan Zhuang as the foundation and starting point. This means changing the weak into strong and clumsy into nimble. In training Zhan Zhuang we get rid of the numerous and move towards simplicity. After training for only TEN DAYS the student will get results naturally. Written words cannot express its marvel. -WXZ
