Soft Qigong is an extremely powerful tool for bringing out ones natural human potential and optimal fitness. Physical health and mental well being are a direct result of this practice. The core of our training is known as Zhan Zhuang "standing post" meditation. The effects of this training are rapid with deep therapeutic results producing a unified and healthy mind, body and spirit.
Zhan Zhuang Qigong provides the simplest possible platform for many levels of cultivation. If you are looking for results then look no further. Our training requires a "1/4" of the time and produces double the results of any other health system. Come see why some say Zhan Zhuang Qigong is Yoga, Taiji and Meditation all in one simple posture. Minimal Effort/Maximum Results. Perfect for the modern lifestyle.

MIT QIGONG GLOBAL STANDING GALLERY
Thank you for supporting MIT Qigong and sharing beautiful pictures of your Qigong practice from around the globe! Our two most recent submissions are from Florida and Bangkok! Please send your photos to qi@mit.edu!!
I decide to pull myself up by my skate straps and pump it down Sukhumvit road. Huffing and skating under all the skytrain stops, maybe you know them… Ekkamai, Thong Lor, Phrom Phong, Asoke, Nana, Phloen Chit. Snake my way through some little hu tong off ton son road. I see two t-shirts while skating worth note… “I heart change.” and “I am an error.” – with a city skyline blurring into a bar code as a graphic. I catch my breath on a grassy knoll overlooking the green lake of Lumphini park: standing horse for 10 minutes. A Monitor lizard slithers through the green water.

Notes from Master Wang Xiang Zhai:
"The standing exercise represents a very special accumulation of
knowledge in China. But in the past there were very few people who paid
attention to it because most people thought it was too simple. They
wondered how, by sitting or standing in a single posture without moving,
can you improve health? When people wonder this, it is because they do
not really understand the essence of standing. In reality, in
practicing the exercise of standing without moving, we can not only
increase physical strength, but also awaken healing processes within the
body, allowing the body to cure itself of all kinds of chronic diseases
it might have accumulated during a lifetime. Therefore, in
preventative medicine, standing exercises have great value. In fact, it
is on of the most appropriate ways of exercising."

The Benefits of Group Qigong Practice
By Michael Tse (Founder of Qi Magazine)
If you have ever been to my seminars or classes, you would have noticed that we all gather together at the end in a large circle to do meditation together. People will often comment afterwards that the energy was very strong, stronger than when they meditate at home on their own.
Of course, when people gather and work together towards the same goal, there is a sense of harmony that will develop. There will also develop a strong sense of community. This is very important when studying because there are times when you will come to a plateau and it may seem you are not making progress. It is easy at these times to get discouraged and maybe even want to give up. However, if you have made friends with those in your class and also find that others have gone through the same problem, then it is easier to overcome it because of their support.
In relation to meditation, when we are doing together as a group, you have a different mind set. You do not really have the luxury of thinking about stopping your meditation to go do the dishes or call a friend. So your mind is more concentrated. Even if you feel uncomfortable, bored or agitated, you hang in there because to not do so would draw attention to yourself. It is easier just to stay and eventually, you may even find your boredom and agitation just slips away without you noticing. So practising in a group can help you push yourself a little harder and achieve more than you thought you could.
When you practise meditation one on one with someone, it is more personal because you are opening yourself to them both consciously and unconsciously. However, practising alone is good and also necessary. If you always rely on a group for lifting and developing your energy, then your level of development will be limited.
In regard to there being a special Qigong form for practising as a group, itis not necessary. Any form or set ofexercises can be done as group, either with a teacher leading or everyonepractising their own things in the sameroom. The feeling and results will bedifferent in each case, both for the teacherand the student.
Not everyone can be in a situationthat they have a teacher and class topractise. They have the harder roadbecause they arewalking that road alone. If you go to a movie, I think most people would prefer to go with a friend than on their own as it is good to be able to share the experience with someone. That does not mean that if you do go to a movie on your own that you cannot enjoy it. Maybe you will even find it better as you do not have to worry whether or not your friend likes it or what row you should sit in. You can please yourself.
When you practise on your own, you can go to the place you like best and do the forms you want, in the order you want and you can meditate for as long as ou wish. Unlike in a class which is more structured. If you can have both situations, that is good, but it is more structured. It is most important to develop to the best of your ability in whatever field you happened to have been planted.
Yours sincerely,
Michael Tse

Some notes on Qigong:
Standing Meditation can be considered an advanced form of Taoist meditation, in which Xing Ming Shuang Xiu "spirit and nature are equally cultivated"! In Standing Meditation, externally, there is no movement, yet internally, the Qi and Breath are moving. It is thus both passive and active, both yin and yang. The practitioner does not try to do anything with the Qi, he or she simply becomes aware of the quality of Qi, how it is moving, where it is blocked or free, whether it feels clear or turbid, smooth or coarse.
Thus, Standing Meditation is "a million dollar secret". It is a secret because it is so obvious, so ordinary that we do not give it the attention it deserves. It is hidden as the air is hidden, or as the water is hidden to a fish. In the everyday Qigong of standing, we discover the deepest mystery and beauty. We turn standing into a discipline in order to go more deeply into the quality of what is happening and to bring back to wholeness the confused, scattered, and lost parts of the body, mind and soul.

Global Standing: 20 min in front of the Cape Cod Light
We traveled to Truro, Cape Cod, and stood in the universal zhan zhuang post for 20 minutes in the fog with the famous Highland Lighthouse at our backs. Although it is best not to practice outside (especially in the wind), the view of the Atlantic made it a memorable experience.
The Highland Lighthouse went into service 1797, and prevented many shipwrecks over the following centuries. The naturalist and author, Henry David Thoreau, visited Highland Light several times in the 1850s. Thoreau found the lighthouse "a neat building, in apple pie order." In his book, Cape Cod, he wrote:

The naturalist and author, Henry David Thoreau, visited Highland Light several times in the 1850s. Thoreau found the lighthouse "a neat building, in apple pie order." In his book, Cape Cod, he wrote:
The keeper entertained us handsomely in his solitary little ocean house. He was a man of singular patience and intelligence, who, when our queries struck him, rang as clear as a bell in response. The light-house lamp a few feet distant shone full into my chamber, and made it bright as day, so I knew exactly how the Highland Light bore all that night, and I was in no danger of being wrecked... I thought as I lay there, half-awake and half-asleep, looking upward through the window at the lights above my head, how many sleepless eyes from far out on the ocean stream -- mariners of all nations spinning their yarns through the various watches of the night -- were directed toward my couch.

Wuji Zhuang with Coach Jim Roselando
Date: 10/3/11
From: Jim info@apricotforesthall.com
Subject: Wuji Zhuang
Hello,
Tonight I am looking forward to doing something a little different. Not only will this be the simplest set we have had done in a long time it will be the most effective way for you to truly sample deeper levels of relaxation. When one trains Zhan Zhuang (or any form of Natural Qigong) we must make sure we do not use any extra force to make the exercise truly work. The two guidelines for the training are for one to be loose & quiet and the rest happens naturally. So, as Qigong practitioners we can only assist in the breaking of blockages (physical/mental) by following these guidelines and any extra thoughts or work will only have reverse effects on our cultivation.
It is said that Wuji is the mother and the Universal Post is the father of the internal arts. Tonight we will focus on Wuji Zhuang. The most common question asked about these two methods would be, What is the difference in cultivation between Wuji & Universal? Answer, Not much! The posture (body) and principles are the same and the only big difference being hand positions. One of the benefits of Wuji is that it is less demanding than the Universal Post so you can "taste" a higher degree of physical, mental and breathing relaxation. When you have experienced high levels of relaxation this allows your sensitivity (AWARENESS) to be greater in any exercise we practice. I do want to tell everyone to do not under-estimate the effectiveness of the Wuji Zhuang!!! If you think this will be too easy for you then I will say, come give it a try and let me know how you feel at the end. I look forward to tonight's work out!

Another Great Summer of Qigong at MIT
Date: 8/30/11
From: Jim info@apricotforesthall.com
Subject: MIT Qigong
Hello,
I just want to thank everyone for a fantastic summer of natural Qigong at MIT. This summer session flew by and our club has a lot of new faces which is always exciting. I truly enjoy sharing this art as I know it's simplicity of practice combined with maximum results are nothing short of amazing. I am looking forward to an exciting fall semester of training with everyone.
Those who are looking to begin training Zhan Zhuang should start with ten minutes per day and gradually build up to the normal daily training schedule. Ten minutes per day may not seem like much but if you were to only do ten minutes per day that would equal over sixty hours per year of mind/body/breath cultivation time per year. So, a little bit certainly goes a long way! I write our personal training programs for anyone who trains at our club. If you would like for me to send you a training schedule feel free to email me. Anyone who has a training schedule and needs it updated also should email me. We rotate the training programs three times per year so every four months I will change up your training routing so the body and training does not get stale.

From: Jim info@apricotforesthall.com
Subject: Monday Night Qigong
Hello,
Monday night we continued with our review of the MIT Qigong "Three Year Program". Working on year three exercises we covered the Classical Eight Posts as well as introducing the Three Point Leg set. This training is designed to holistically link the entire body. Allowing whole body circulation and awareness. I would like to say that I am very impressed with everyone in our class. Zhan Zhuang is very demanding and coming to class and holding still postures for 40-60 minutes is amazing. GREAT JOB!!!
