<div style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
In the early 1940’s Wang Xiang Zhai was interviewed several times by reporters from Beijing newspapers. Those interviews have been collected and reproduced in various books on Xing Yi Quan and Da Cheng Quan under the title Essence of Boxing Science.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
Mr. Wang Xiang Zhai is the founder of Da Cheng Quan. He is well known and held in high esteem in Wushu circles in China. Recently he moved to Beijing. He has arranged a meeting time every Sunday afternoon from 1- 6 pm in Dayangyibin Alley for practitioners of different martial arts to exchange knowledge and opinions in order to carry forward and promote the martial spirit of China. Yesterday our correspondent called on him and together they had the following discussion.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="color: #1d2129;"><br /><b>Correspondent:</b> </span><span style="color: purple;">I have always admired you for your superb skills of boxing. May I ask what your ambition is with regard to the boxing art?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<b style="color: #1d2129;">Wang Xiang Zhai: </b><span style="color: #134f5c;">I am indeed embarrassed when I am recommended by my friends as the representative of Da Cheng Chuan. I left my teacher in the year of Guang Xu Reign (1875-1908), Qing Dynasty, and since then I have traveled extensively in the vast areas north and south of the Yangtse River and have met with many great boxing experts of various schools and experienced untold hardships. My greatest gain in the past 30 years and more is that I have had many famous teachers and helpful friends, with whom I have held a lot of discussions, through which I have greatly improved myself. Therefore I count myself as a veteran boxer who has some knowledge of the boxing art. Of late, friends have given considerable publicity in newspapers to me and Da Cheng Chuan. In order not to be misunderstood by personalities of various circles who do not know the facts, I would like to make clear what I have thought in mind. I am now old and infirm without the slightest idea of seeking personal fame or gain. What I am anxious to do is to work in joint effort with my compatriots to carry forward the instinctive martial morality before I am too old to do anything, and to eradicate those heresies which harm others as well as myself. It is the last thing I would do to make others lavish praise on me and to win fame by cheating the public.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="color: #1d2129;"><b>Correspondent:</b> </span><span style="color: purple;">What is the basis of the art of Boxing?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<b style="color: #1d2129;">Wang: </b><span style="color: #134f5c;">What are the basic principles of the art of boxing? To this question, different people have different answers. Many people are fascinated to learn boxing routines, pay attention to patterns of movements, and to practice hits and beats. This, superficial as it may be, has been has been the popular concept of boxing for many years and has led many people astray.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="color: #1d2129;"><b>Correspondent:</b> </span><span style="color: purple;">It is said that Xing Yi, Ba Gua, Tai Ji, and Tong Bei are of the inner family boxing (Nei Jia Quan), but I am not clear about their branches and schools.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="color: #1d2129;"><b>Wang:</b> </span><span style="color: #134f5c;">It is a prevailing idea that Xing Yi, Ba Gua, Tai Ji and Tong Bei are of Nei Jia Quan, but I am sorry to say that I don’t know how the names of the inner and outer families came about. So no comment can be made on this point. But by analyzing the master-hands of several generations one can see part of the picture.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="color: #134f5c;">Xing Yi Quan of the Orthodox school Xin Yi Ba (Heart-Directed-Movements) and Liu He Bu (Six-Direction-Steps) of Hunan province are of the same origin. When tracing the origin of Mr. Li Dai-dong (known as “Old Dai”) of Henan, you will see that he is the great–grandson of Mr. Li Zhi He, who was the teacher of Elder Dai Long Bang. The Yuans of Jiyuan named the boxing differently, but it is in fact the same school with Mr. Li as its founder. By changing Xin-Yi (Heart-Intention) into Xing Yi (Form-Intention), Mr. Dai did not betray the original meaning of Xin Yi, because boxing originated from Liu Fa (Six-Ways). Thus a connotation of the phrase quan quan fu ying, meaning “to adhere to someone or something most faithfully” was applied to this form of boxing. It must be noted that Xing Yi Quan in its orthodox form had no such thing as the Twelve Forms (Twelve Animals), though their should be twelve forms of the body. Nor did it have the theory of mutual promotion and restraint of the five elements.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="color: #134f5c;">The Five Elements are only five terms representing five forms of force, not methods or routines of shadow boxing. I still remember instructions taught by my late masters about the five elements: metal, wood, water, fire and earth. ‘Metal’ refers to strength in the bones and muscles which are hard as diamond and can sever gold or iron. “Wood” refers to the force whose range of action is compared to the supporting shape of a tree. “Water” refers to the force which is like a surging ocean and a dragon swimming in the sea, penetrating everywhere. “Fire” refers to the force which, like gunpowder, explodes and burns with a mere touch of the hand. “Earth” refers to the solid, heavy composite force which seems to have been produced by the joint action of heaven and earth. This is what is called five elements combining into one, not the stuff of one form of boxing overcoming another form of boxing as some people are preaching these days. If one observes first and then thinks twice in actual fighting, it is almost certain he will be defeated long before he takes action at all.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="color: #134f5c;">Ba Gua Zhang (Eight Diagram Palm) was formerly known as “Chuan Zhang” (Palm of Sichuan Province). I once had an interview with Mr. Cheng Ting Hua. When he was performing art, he was, I recall, like a divine dragon roaming, winding and twisting in the sky. Such superb skills are really beyond the reach of us contemporaries. As to Master Dong Hai Chuan’s boxing, it is even more difficult to have a true understanding of his skills. Mr. Liu Feng Chun is a friend of mine. He has acquired remarkable skills, though his attainments are not so great as master Dong. Yet even then he is far superior to the practitioners of the “64 Palms” or “72 Kicks.” I hope that those who practice Ba Gua should concentrate on the single and double Chuan Zhang, try their best to perceive every movement. At the same time, they should make a penetrating study of the theory and put it into practice.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="color: #134f5c;">Among the disciples by direct line of Tai Ji Quan, I think the most outstanding master-hands are the Yang brothers, Yang Shao Hou and Yang Chen Fu. As an intimate friend of theirs, I know there is indeed some genuine knowledge of mechanics in Tai Ji Quan. However, out of one hundred practitioners, less than one knows its essence. Even if one may happen to know some of it, he cannot have a thorough understanding of the whole, because the basic way of perceiving the skill has long been lost, and therefore there is no mechanism of force to speak of in its legwork and footwork. The boxing in question in its original form had only three movements and was thus called Lao San Dao (Old Three Cuts). It was changed by Mr. Wang Zong Yue and increased to 13 forms, which was further abused to as many as 150 forms. That is one of the main reasons why this boxing has lost its quintessence. If it is practiced for the purpose of preserving one’s health, it will only restrain one’s spirit and energy and bring discomfort to the practitioner. If practiced for actual combat, it will only do harm to the limbs. Its other functions, if any, are nothing more than idling away the practitioner’s time and confusing his mind. As to its method of practicing, which is characterized by disorderly blows of the fist and the palm or kicks of the foot and leg, I must say it is really ridiculous. In confrontation with a master-hand, such a practitioner of Tai Ji Quan is sure to fail. Even its master-hand I am afraid, can do nothing with a quite commonplace adversary so long as the latter is not very clumsy. In short, this boxing has been abused to such an extent that it might one day become a mere rigid form like a chess manual. In the last twenty years, most of its practitioners are not aware of its falseness. Even if someone is clear-headed he does not know what he should actually do. As to ordinary students, most of them believe in what they have heard without using their own eyes. Thus Tai Ji Quan is in fact being pushed towards its graveyard. What a great loss! I sincerely hope that those competent followers of that boxing will straighten it out and make it systematic with a view to developing it in the future. Here I take liberty to make comments on Tai Ji Quan, and I don’t know whether my comments are appropriate. Pardon me if I am too outspoken. I think that one day those learners of Tai Ji Quan who have really gained something would agree with me in this regard.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="color: #134f5c;">Tong Bei Quan is very popular in North China, especially in areas around Beijing. But to my mind, most of the Tong Bei Quan practitioners I have met are not quite mature. There are some who seem to have got the essence of the theory, but their skills are far from being perfect. This may be due to the fact that they have not got the true teachings from their predecessors, who, I am sure, were certainly not like that. Some of the present practitioners of Tong Bei Quan are very skillful in certain movements, but taking as a whole they can hardly get on the right path.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="color: #134f5c;">Mei Hua Quan (Plum Blossom Boxing) or Wu Shi Zhang (Five Form Pile Exercises), has been passed down generation by generation. Its descendants in the direct line can be found in Henan and Sichuan provinces. This form of boxing is quite the same in essence as Wu Ji San Shou (Five Free Hand Skills) practiced in Xinhua, Qianzhou of Fujian province and Santou in Guangdong province. When applied to actual combat, it has its own unique merits, but it is one-sided and not very practical.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="color: #134f5c;">Ba Fan, Mian Zhang, Pi Gua, Ba Ji, Da Gong Li, San Huang Pao, Nian Tui, Lian Quan, etc. all have their own merits and demerits, most of them are superfluous in firmness but inadequate in suppleness and lack of inward spiritual strength. As for Da Hong Quan and Xiao Hong Quan, Tan Tui, Chuan Jiao, Long Boxing and Short Boxing, and various other schools, I will not make any comments here.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="color: #1d2129;"><b>Correspondent:</b> </span><span style="color: purple;">What is your opinion on preserving the national art of boxing?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; display: inline; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-top: 6px;">

<div style="background-color: white; display: inline; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="color: #134f5c;">It is really a pity that the boxing art of our country is now in a state of chaos, which can be summed up in one sentence: It has rejected the essence but assimilated the gross. Boxing arts from Japan and West Europe, though unique in some respects, are not based on the strength of the whole body. As mentioned above, Chinese Boxing is now in a chaotic state, and so it has to be straightened out and systematized with a view to carrying it forward. Who would take up this responsibility except us? This is why I, in spite of my shallowness, make such a forceful appeal to the general public.</span></div>

I'm truly honored to share the art of Qigong to such an enthusiastic group of loyal and inspirational health cultivators. Every week we use stillness and tranquility to return the mind, body & breath to the natural state. Our classes have always focused on core training which is the path towards remarkable results and in 2018, MIT Qigong & Harvard Qigong will continue to be the Boston areas leading Yiquan & Emei clubs.</span><i style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;"> - Jim Roselando</i><a ajaxify="/mitqigong/photos/a.612899898756579.1073741825.216705585042681/1426524917394069/?type=3&size=960%2C498&fbid=1426524917394069&source=13&player_origin=unknown" class="_4-eo _2t9n" data-ploi="https://scontent.fsnc1-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/18402792_1426524917394069_7282946186696712243_n.jpg?oh=f537b9cf7d2b828ac2fedaa454839627&oe=5AEB901B" data-render-location="homepage_stream" href="https://www.facebook.com/mitqigong/photos/a.612899898756579.1073741825.216705585042681/1426524917394069/?type=3" rel="theater" style="width: 476px;"></a><br />

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial";">If you have
watched the computer-animated action comedy martial arts film called Kung Fu
Panda, you have probably heard of Qi (pronounced “<i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">CHEE</i>”) and how Master Shifu uses “Qi” to create nerve-based attacks,
heal living beings and grow flora. Just this past week, ZSers at San Francisco
office had the firsthand opportunity to practice, cultivate and balance Qi at the
Qigong wellness session led by our own ZS manager, David Weingest.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial";">With roots
in Chinese medicine, philosophy, and martial arts, Qigong (simplified Chinese: </span></span><span lang="ZH-CN" style="font-family: "simsun"; line-height: 115%;">气功</span><span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial";">) is an internal Chinese meditative exercise which
uses slow graceful movements and controlled breathing techniques to enhance a
practitioner's overall health. It has more than 10,000 styles, and 200 million
people practicing worldwide. It combines dynamic, static and meditation
practices that resemble yoga and tai-chi.<o:p></o:p></span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial";">To kick-off
the Qigong session, David gave us a brief background about Qigong and how he
got involved back when he was in MIT. Then, we were divided into two rows to
give each other some rooms to open our arms outwards. First, David taught us
the most fundamental poses with controlled breathing techniques. This was
followed by a few other movements such as </span></span><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58JUdOvLUac"><span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="color: blue; font-family: "arial";">Low post</span></span></a><span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial";">, </span></span><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PBu4vZjCqE"><span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="color: blue; font-family: "arial";">Turning cow</span></span></a><span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial";">, and </span></span><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vZMlJaKwvk"><span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="color: blue; font-family: "arial";">Crane</span></span></a><span style="font-family: "arial";"><span style="line-height: 115%;">. My favorite one was the “Gathering Qi”. It is a movement where you
raise your arms outward and inhale to gather Qi, and exhale as you return your
arms back to dan tien</span><span style="line-height: 115%;"> (belly
button) to complete one full movement cycle. In our day and day busy work life
as consultants, this is such a simple internal exercise that can be done
anywhere whether it is at your workstation or hotel room. After completing a
few cycles of these movements to center mind and body, I could already feel the
serenity yet focused concentration – so ready to take on new challenges,
presentations and meetings!<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial";">We ended the
session with a series of “washing” movements, which is said to have the effect
to clean up the mind and wash the marrow. First we rubbed our hands together (to
build a little friction and warmth) and washed our face 3 times. This is
followed by rubbing (wash) your hands and patting the top and sides of your
head from front to back (also 3 times). Then we did the same washing and
patting steps to our legs. Lastly, David shared with us a few resources to
learn more about Qigong – 1) his archived blog at <a href="http://mitqigong.blogspot.com/">http://mitqigong.blogspot.com</a> and 2) a <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DGZKQ1E/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?ie=UTF8&btkr=1" target="_blank">book by Russell Simmons</a></span></span><span style="font-family: "arial";"><span style="font-size: 11pt; line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-size: small;"> on the benefits of meditation. In the end, we didn’t heal living beings or grow
flora, the session was energizing and nourishing both physically and mentally!<o:p></o:p></span></span></span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04791042279205143154noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-212521614051748317.post-57523793313066468052015-12-15T16:30:00.000-05:002015-12-15T16:30:36.737-05:00Happy holidays!!<div>
<span style="color: black; font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Hello my friends,</span></div>
<div>
<br />
<span style="color: black; font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"> Well, its been another amazing year of Life Nourishing Qigong at MIT. I truly appreciate the incredible support that each and every one of you show by not only making our classes week after week but also our events successful! </span></div>
<div>
<br />
<span style="color: black; font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"> Indeed the MIT Qigong Club has become a powerful force for good health and good deeds. Our Nepal Charity event raised $1600 for that devastated region. We came together and stood with our brothers and sisters who were in trouble to let them know; Help is coming from MIT Qigong. </span></div>
<div>
<br />
<span style="color: black; font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"> I also want to thank everyone for the support at Harvard. Our Harvard Plaza Qigong sessions were memorable and a special thank you to Pearl for arranging the Boston College Radio Interview!!! </span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: black; font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"> </span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: black; font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"> Thank you everyone for the extremely thoughtful and generous card. I am looking forward to another year of fantastic growth and friendship with all of you in 2016. I wish you all a very Merry Xmas and Happy Holiday Season.</span></div>

The people of Nepal need our help! MIT Qigong is teaming up with MIT Wellness & Park Ave Wellness to raise money for the people of Nepal. Most realize that the region was devastated by an earthquake and its aftershocks. <span style="color: #351c75;"><span style="font-size: large;">Another great qigong session outside Memorial Hall at Harvard University. We miss the good old days of MIT, but the Harvard Qigong Club is already a huge success. 12 standing tonight! Thanks to Coach Jim Roselando as always. And thanks to all the members for their continued support. Join us every Monday (or Thursday when it rains) at Harvard. </span></span></div>

Fu Wei Zhong biography taken from: <a href="http://www.emeiqigong.us/lineage/lineage/fu-wei-zhong.html">http://www.emeiqigong.us/lineage/lineage/fu-wei-zhong.html</a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
The future envisioned by Grandmaster Ju Zan centered on a
young man named Fu Wei Zhong who began his training on the day he was born in
1949. Driven by an exceptional interest in old texts, he began studying
traditional Chinese medicine and reading ancient Chinese philosophies when he
was only six years old. By the age of 12, Fu Wei Zhong was treating and healing
people with techniques he had learned from his reading and the instruction from
his grandfather, a traditional Chinese medical doctor and the emperor’s family
doctor.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
He began his martial arts training in Shaolin
Gongfu at the age of seven. Several years later, he became a student of
Luo Xing Wu, an eminent Chinese martial arts grandmaster, from whom he
learned many martial arts disciplines, including Xingyi and Bagua Gongfu.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Like many other young people during the Chinese Cultural
Revolution, Fu Wei Zhong was sent to the northeast China Heilongjiang province.
Because of his training, he was asked to work on a collective farm as a
veterinarian. He was 18 years old when he arrived and opened a medical clinic.
For eight years, he used traditional Chinese medicinal herbs and treatment
techniques, including acupuncture and Chinese massage, to treat multitudes of
sick people and animals with great success.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Fu Wei Zhong returned to Beijing in 1976 and
taught martial arts at the Beijing Dongcheng District Martial Arts School for a
year. He planned to take a master’s degree in religion and was looking for a
renowned professor to guide him in the beginning. A friend, Liang Shu Ming,
said that he would take him to meet Abbot Ju Zan, the Supreme Abbot of Chinese
Buddhism and 12th Lineage Holder of Emei Qigong.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Fu Wei Zhong had had a recurring dream since childhood of a
monk who would change his life. He didn’t know who the monk was or why the
images were coming to him, but when he saw the face of the Abbot he recognized
him as the monk from his dreams. At their meeting, they looked at each other
and the Abbot said, “Oh, you’ve finally arrived, it’s time for you to train!”
as if they already knew each other.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Fu Wei Zhong was invited to join a distinguished group of
men and women chosen to undergo training and a selection process for
the position of 13th layman Lineage Holder of Emei Qigong.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
After six months of intensive training and testing, Fu Wei
Zhong was selected by His Holiness, Grandmaster Ju Zan, to receive further
instruction in Buddhism, Daoism, traditional Chinese medicine, Taijiquan,
Qigong, Feng Shui, future prediction, and other Dharma methods exclusively
transmitted from one Lineage Holder to another within the Emei Qigong system.
During this time, Fu Wei Zhong was often in seclusion—studying, cultivating,
and integrating the system’s ancient texts into practical forms and
easy-to-read language that could be effectively taught to the public.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
In 1984, the title of the 13th Lineage
Holder was bestowed on Fu Wei Zhong. He received the Emei Qigong sacred book
“The Emei Treasured Lotus Canon” and officially assumed the title of
Grandmaster as well as the responsibilities of being the Lineage Holder.
Grandmaster Ju Zan directed him to begin teaching publicly, “In order to end
the pain and suffering of the world and to allow Emei Qigong to bring out
humanity to shine like the sun.”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
In the spring of 1985, Fu Wei Zhong began teaching Emei
Qigong healing techniques throughout China, thereby initiating a national
revitalization of the role of Qigong in Chinese medical theory and practice. In
1989, he went into seclusion again to meditate for three years so that he could
further develop Emei Qigong techniques so they could be more easily taught to
the public in our fast-paced modern society. It was during this period of
extended meditation that he was able to achieve the Qigong state necessary to
decode the sacred Emei Qigong skills. Fu Wei Zhong was able to decipher this
information and now teaches these skills in his lectures, seminars and
writings.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Grandmaster Fu believes that only by training thousands of
skilled Emei Qigong practitioners will it be possible to restore and preserve
the health of millions. He has personally treated, healed and helped thousands
of people—the rich and famous as well as orphans and patients considered
incurable. China’s late president Deng Xiao Ping was among those helped by Grandmaster
Fu. Using the methods of Emei Qigong cultivation, medical qigong and
traditional Chinese herbal medicine, Grandmaster Fu has successfully cured tens
of thousands of people who have come to him for healing.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
At age 36, he was recognized as one of the most prominent
grandmasters of Qigong and Traditional Chinese Medicine. The Chinese have
dubbed him “Emei Wizard” and “China’s Medical Buddha," as well as deeming
him “The Father of Modern Medical Qigong.” In addition, Fu Wei Zhong has been
made lifetime president of two Qigong institutions: The International Medical
Qigong Academy and The Emei Linji International Qigong Medical Research
Institute, and he holds honorary positions and titles in more than 50
hospitals, medical colleges, Qigong clinics and Qigong associations in China.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Fu Wei Zhong is a learned scholar. Having read thousands of
books, both Chinese and foreign, he is well versed in the medical,
philosophical and theological theories of different schools, both Eastern and
Western. While studying, he took careful notes and wrote down his reflections,
which number over three million words. To date, he has published six books
and over twenty treatises in China.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Fu Wei Zhong immigrated to the United States in
1995. His goal was to disseminate Emei Qigong’s therapeutic techniques so that
its methods could be fused with contemporary western medical techniques. His
goal is to alleviate much of the suffering in today’s world. He is determined
to transmit the knowledge and skills of Emei Qigong to the American public.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Since his arrival in the United States, Grandmaster Fu
has given lectures and workshops in over 30 American cities. He was invited to
the University of San Francisco and the University of California at San
Diego to lecture on Qigong and was a visiting professor at the American College of
Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco, where he taught
curriculum-required courses on the Emei methodology of Qi (energy) emission for
diagnosis and treatment. In 1996, he participated in an experiment at the Atlantic Tumor Hospital in California that
involved the emission of Qi into cancer cells. The initial positive results
enabled the experiment to be taken to a bigger scale. In 2001, these
encouraging results were published in the magazine, <i>Spirituality and
Health.</i>Fu Wei Zhong also participated in an experiment conducted by the
California Pacific Medical Center of Complementary Medicine Research Institute
to test Qigong and other holistic modalities in the treatment of brain tumors
from a distance. The Discovery Channel filmed Grandmaster Fu at theMedical Center and
aired the documentary in Canada on a show called “Daily Planet.”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
As of 2006, there are many thousands of Emei Qigong students
in the United States and 2 million followers of Emei Qigong
worldwide. What the world needs now, more than ever, is a heart-centered system
like Emei Qigong to bring health, vitality and true kindness to people.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
In the fall of 2006, Grandmaster Fu taught the Level IV
seminar, the Emei Qigong Level I Teacher’s Training, for the first time.
This month-long session was held at Emei Mountain in China,
and students stayed at the Emeishan Grand Hotel at the base of the mountain
during this time. The training was successful; students emerged from this
intensive training with a much deeper and comprehensive undertanding of Emei
Qigong, and many will continue their training to become Level I teachers. A
second group of prospective Level I teachers took Level IV in 2007.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
For the next few years, Grandmaster Fu will concentrate on
training the monk who will become the next lineage holder inChina and the
students who will become Emei Qigong Level I teachers in North
America. </div>

<b><i>Excerpt from an article by Jim Roselando from <a href="http://www.wingchunillustrated.com/">Wing Chun Illustrated</a>:</i></b><br />
<b><i><br /></i></b>
<div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia; font-size: 10pt;"><b>There is one thing that is common across all lineages of Wing Chun Kuen. The universal foundation set of our art, the <span class="il">Siu</span> <span class="il">Lin</span> <span class="il">Tau</span>. This mother set is preserved in its original platform within the Cho family and also a <span class="il">Siu</span> <span class="il">Lin</span> <span class="il">Tau</span>
Kuen Kuit "boxing poetry" which is designed to holistically strengthen
and unite the whole body with our Gongfu. This one long mother set
would later be broken or split into three smaller sets during the Red
Junk period. </b></span><span style="font-family: Georgia; font-size: 13pt;"><b></b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia; font-size: 10pt;"><b> </b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia; font-size: 10pt;"><b>Most
Wing Chun lineages state that our art originated from a fusion of Snake
and Crane technology. Research provided by the Cho family and their
decedents supports this theory. Miao Shun's fusion of Ng Mui's White
Crane boxing with his own knowledge of Emei internal art (Snake Qigong)
resulted in a "Snake" Body with "Crane" Boxing art. Snake & Crane!
This new hybrid was rooted in two giants of Chinese martial and
internal technology, which thus became a new advanced soft style of
boxing. </b></span><span style="font-family: Georgia; font-size: 13pt;"><b></b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia; font-size: 10pt;"><b> </b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia; font-size: 13px;"><b>Across the spectrum of Wing Chun lineages, almost
everyone agrees that Wing Chun is a soft style of boxing. Well, the
term soft has specific criteria within internal arts. This means the
body, breath & mind must be cultivated with softness with your
Gongfu. </b></span><span style="font-family: Georgia; font-size: 13px;"><b>The
set directly develops ones physical body by loosening each joint from
the tip of the fingers to the foot. So not only does a practitioner use
the <span class="il">Siu</span> Liu <span class="il">Tau</span>
technology to develop their combat skills, and concepts, but also to
achieve a deeper state of cultivation. Physically the muscles, tendons,
joints all are to be targeted and trained. This will not only loosen
the body but also gradually realign the skeletal structure. The
benefits for real life situations are many. A loose body will have the
qualities of heavy and light, enabling it to react and respond
dynamically. A loose body has a greater range of elasticity allowing
for maximum open, close, rise & sink which are essential for issuing
and receiving force. </b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia; font-size: 10pt;"><b><br /></b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia; font-size: 13px;"><b><br /></b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia; font-size: 13px;"><b>When one begins to study breathing in their <span class="il">Siu</span> <span class="il">Lin</span> <span class="il">Tau</span> practice they must only bring a light awareness to breathing from bellow the belly button. Our
ancestors placed a special importance to this practice. Commonly known
as Som Bai Fut (three prayers to Buddha), this section is known as Kang
& Rou (release and load) is specifically performed slowly in order
to target your breath with stillness during our boxing. Why is it
important for the reality of fighting? If the breathing isn't freely
flowing then the body immediately tenses up and the body becomes
sluggish, clumsy and weak rather than dynamic and spontaneous. </b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia; font-size: 10pt;"><b> </b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia; font-size: 10pt;"><b>The first stanza in the <span class="il">Siu</span> <span class="il">Lin</span> <span class="il">Tau</span>
Kuen Kuit states: "Collect the Yi, Union with the Shen in the Equal
stance". This maxim clearly discusses the third area of discussion in
this article regarding basic cultivation: the mind. First, let’s break
down this Kuen Kuit for you. Collect the Yi is telling us that
over-active thoughts must be quieted and then it will Union with the
Shen (spirit) or have equilibrium of a relaxed mind, relaxed breath
& relaxed body in the Yee Jee Ma or Character "=" Stance. This
equal stance is discussing the concept of neutral power, which allows
for stability, strength and movement in any direction.</b></span><span style="font-family: Georgia; font-size: 13pt;"><b></b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia; font-size: 10pt;"><b> </b></span></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia; font-size: 10pt;"><b>The
fundamental purpose of lower abdominal breathing is to gradually quiet
the mind over time and this is why is must be isolated and trained
faithfully. The process isn't complicated, but is often neglected by
practitioners. The simple truth is the above knowledge is
the basic Gong in Gongfu. What benefits does this bring us in the
reality of the streets? Emotions are extremely powerful before and

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Emei Qigong is a great treasure-offering to the world from the Emei
Linji Chan Lineage of Chinese Buddhism. <span style="color: #990000;"><b>Held in secret for almost 800
years, reserved only for the monastic Chan community, this wisdom
tradition has been passed down through an unbroken lineage. </b></span><span style="color: #134f5c;"> </span>Only in the
past 10 years, in a historical and revolutionary act of expansive
compassion and generosity, have the jewels of understanding in this
tradition been revealed to the world’s lay population. It embraces a
comprehensive system of teachings and practices particularly relevant to
the challenges of the modern world by promoting physical health and
healing, emotional balance, and the development of higher levels of
awareness to help awaken to one’s <span style="color: #351c75;"><b>True Nature.</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Emei Qigong is taught only by Emei Masters and teachers recognized by <b><span style="color: #38761d;">Grand Master Fu Weizhong, 13th
Lineage Head of the Emei Linji Chan School of Chinese Buddhism.</span></b> It is
unique in that it includes all forms of Qigong yet transcends the limits
inherent in each of them—<b><span style="color: #0b5394;">Spiritual Qigong, Medical Qigong, Martial
Qigong and Performance Qigong. </span></b>The highest form of Qigong awakens the
understanding of how to, first, skillfully and harmoniously journey
through the relative, material world and, second, realize our own True
Nature and the nature of the universe. The methods of Emei Qigong
unleash one’s natural meta-intelligence—that which exists beyond our
mundane level of intelligence—to give rise to the expression of our
highest human potential.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>What specific practices and teachings are offered in Emei Qigong trainings?</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- <span style="color: #b45f06;"><b>Internal and movement practices</b></span> to heal and maintain the health of
the body, balance the emotions, and expand the mind and our view of self
and reality</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- Internal and movement practices that <b><span style="color: #741b47;">delete negative thinking</span></b>, so that positive thinking can naturally arise</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- Internal and movement practices that help us <b><span style="color: #741b47;">cultivate greater
compassion, peace, comfort</span></b>, and capacity to adapt to changing external
conditions</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- Methods to skillfully <span style="color: #45818e;"><b>liberate us from the influence of difficult
events in the past</b></span>, and to give rise to good thinking and a more
unencumbered, joyful, generous way of interacting with the world</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- Practices that balance physiological functions and powerfully <b><span style="color: #38761d;">transform unhealthy physical patterns</span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- Teachings and practices to <span style="color: #741b47;"><b>effectively utilize food</b></span> and food therapy as a basic condition for our health and happiness</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- <span style="color: #990000;"><b>Healing methods</b></span> that can be easily learned and are highly effective when applied to oneself and or to others</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- Practices that balance the influences we are born with that drive physiological patterns and mental habits</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- Methods to adjust <b><span style="color: #bf9000;">personal and environmental fengshui</span></b> to create beneficial internal and external conditions for our life</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- Teachings that offer insights into the laws of nature in our universe and demonstrate how to <b><span style="color: #351c75;">live in harmony </span></b>with them</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #660000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Over the past few weeks, Coach Roselando has introduced the MIT Qigong Club to the art of Siu Lin Tau. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #660000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #660000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The Cho families preservation of Red Boat
actor Yik Kam's 'Baan Jung' Opera Wing Chun system takes us back to a
time before the art was split into what later became the three fist
sets. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #660000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<span class="userContent"><div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #660000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Their Siu Lin Tau long set is an internal set that <span class="text_exposed_show">had
four sections. They also preserve a set of SLT Kuen Kuit as guidelines
to not only the practice of their SLT but to be used for ones nei gong
cultivation. </span></span></div>
<span class="text_exposed_show"><div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #660000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #660000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In 2007, Coach Roselando wrote/published an article showing the
relationship between the Yik Kam art and the mother systems of Fujian
Crane Boxing & Emei Snake Qigong. Today many system can be traced
back to Fujian Crane but for Wing Chun the uniqueness is the 'Snake'
component. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #660000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #660000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">There is no question
that the 1st generation of our art certainly had a close physical
relationship to Emei as well as a close relationship with its poetry. </span></div>
